Beliefs

BIBLE | We believe the Bible is the infallible and inspired Word of God, and the only foundation for life.

GOD | We believe in one God who exists in three distinct, equal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

JESUS | We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the only way to heaven.

HOLY SPIRIT | We believe the Holy Spirit resides in the heart of all who put their faith in Christ. We believe that all believers should be filled with the Holy Spirit and utilize the spiritual gifts He has given them.

CREATION | We believe in the Biblical account of creation. God is the Creator of the universe and everything in it, including mankind.

SALVATION | We believe that we are saved by grace (God’s unmerited favor). Salvation cannot be earned through good works. It is God’s free gift to those who repent of their sins and put their faith in Jesus Christ.

WATER BAPTISM | We believe that all believers should be water baptized as a public confession of their faith in Jesus Christ.

ETERNAL LIFE | We believe that Jesus came to earth and died so that we can live an “abundant life” here on earth and enjoy eternal life in heaven after we die. God wants you to experience “heaven on earth.” He wants to give you the kind of life you’ve always dreamed about.

SECOND COMING
| We believe that Jesus Christ will return to the earth to judge the wicked, and to gather and reward His followers.

Core Values

We believe the church should be:

Biblical—We believe that the church should be founded on the Bible and built on the Acts 2 church model. We believe anointed Bible teaching is the primary catalyst for spiritual transformation. The Bible should serve as the moral compass of the church.

            Acts 2:42-47; 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Missional—We believe the primary mission of the church is the salvation and discipleship of unbelievers. Missional churches make this mission their top priority. Every believer has a part in fulfilling the mission of making disciples of the whole world. Missional churches also help birth new churches.

            Luke 19:10; Matthew 28:19

Passionate—We believe in passionate spirituality and inspiring worship services where people personally experience God’s presence. The church should move people to passion for God so they love Him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Without passion the church becomes a lifeless institution instead of being a powerful, life-giving force.

            John 4:22-24; Matthew 22:37-39; James 5:16; 2 Samuel 6:16

Spirit-filled—We believe the church should be filled with the Holy Spirit and operate in the freedom, power, and gifts of the Spirit. We believe that all the gifts of the Spirit are for today, but that the Holy Spirit determines which gifts each believer receives. We believe the evidence of a Spirit-filled life is the fruit of the Spirit.

        1 Corinthians 12:4-11; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:22-23; Matthew 7:21-23

Relational—We believe that relationships are the essence of life and that loving relationships should permeate every aspect of church life. ‘Celebrating life together’ is our motto. We believe the church should function like a family. We emphasize wholeness and restoration in family relationships.

            Matthew 22:37-40

Real—We believe the church should be an authentic community where the masks come off and people can be honest and vulnerable. In authentic communities, people feel free to be real with God, themselves, and each other without fear of being judged.

            2 Corinthians 4:2 (MSG)

Relevant—We believe the church should be culturally relevant and seeker-friendly in order to reach our primary target audience—the unchurched. Creativity helps make our presentation of the Gospel relevant. While the message must never change, the methods we use to communicate it must constantly evolve.

             Acts 17:22-28; 1 Corinthians 9:22; Matthew 11:19

Excellent—We believe that excellence honors God and inspires people. Mediocrity kills the church, whereas excellence increases the church’s effectiveness. Excellence is a way of life—it is doing the very best with what we have. We must constantly strive to improve in every area of ministry.

            Ecclesiastes 9:10; Galatians 6:4; Colossians 3:23

Transformational—We believe the church should be a place where broken people can be forgiven, healed, restored, set free, and transformed into fully devoted disciples of Christ. The church is God’s primary tool for societal transformation.

            Romans 8:29; Isaiah 61:1-3; Matthew 16:24

Empowering—We believe that the primary role of church leaders is to empower people to discover, develop and deploy their spiritual gifts. The church should inspire people to pursue their dreams and fulfill their God-given destinies. Healthy churches create a leadership culture where emerging leaders can be easily developed and deployed.

            2 Timothy 2:2; 1 Peter 4:10; Exodus 18:17-23

Compassionate—We believe the church should be compassionate to the needs of humanity and seek every opportunity to serve its community. The church should be a place of compassion, healing, acceptance, hope, and restoration for a hurting world.

            Matthew 14:14; Matthew 5:14-16; Mark 10:45

Fun—We believe the church should be fun and marked by celebration. The Bible teaches us that in God’s presence there is fullness of joy, that laughter is good medicine, and that there is a party in heaven every time one sinner repents. “If it ain’t fun, it ain’t church!”

            Psalm 16:11; Proverbs 17:22; Luke 15:7

History

With a church plant team consisting of seven adults and three children, Passion launched its first service on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Kyle and Lisa Kimbrell’s home in the northeast heights. Amazingly, sixty-eight people attended the first service and ten people made decisions for Christ.

Later that evening, Pastors Brian and Mercy went to Presbyterian Hospital where Mercy gave birth to their second child, Colin. Their son was born deaf in one ear, but God miraculously healed him five weeks later—a sign to the Alarid’s that Passion would be a supernatural church.

So much has transpired since then—people have committed their lives to Christ, marriages have been healed, families have been restored, new believers have been discipled, people have grown in their spiritual gifts, and leaders have been developed and released into ministry.

Passion Church moved from the Kimbrell residence to Cottonwood Mall Theater in August 2006. Passion leases four theaters every Sunday morning and has services for the whole family—adults, youth (6th – 12th grade), children (K-5), and infants and toddlers.

Passion Church has grown from 10 people to over 200 people since April 2006. Over 800 people have made decisions for Christ at our weekend services since Passion started.
